If you don't mind doing local work, Central Transport has some terminals in Florida. They are..... more forgiving than most LTL companies.

How about container companies? Here in Chicago all they require is a pulse and they might even waive that requirement.

This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.

  • Estes
  • Yellow-Roadway

None of us (that I know of) tried looking for a job with leaving the scene of an accident in a CMV.

Wow.

Many of you guys just don’t get this. None of us have ever tried to look for a driving job with this level of adversity.

Hydra needs to change his approach, widen the search looking at companies local to him, try to work off his 6+ months with them. CDL A or B.

Get that face to face interview; look the hiring manager in the eye and own the mistake and own the responsibility going forward. He’ll never get that opportunity with a mega.

Many local companies are happy to find an applicant with experience able to pass a pee test.

Every application you submit, don't wait for them to call you. 1-2 days after submitting an application, call them and ask about the status of your application. When I was going through the hiring process last year, I had several companies fail to contact me after my application was submitted. In fact, my current employer was one that I had to follow up and call them. Once I did, they started working my application. Any application less than 30 days old is still viable, so you can call them and follow up still. Even after 30 days, they can look your application up to see if you may qualify. The recruiter will then ask you to resubmit your application.

Don't assume "none." I wasn't here when I went through my own situation. Trying to get into a school during COVID is a hell of a thing, even without adding other difficulties. I see me as someone who thinks he knows everything. Facing adversity is something that I have a fair amount of experience in. The companies that Banks and I mentioned are companies that often give drivers a chance where other companies wouldn't. Does that mean don't follow your suggestion? Absolutely not. It's sage advice to broaden one's search when the sledding is going to be difficult. Hydra will have to cast as wide a net as possible. I am only responding to this because you lassoed me into a group of "never faced this adversity."

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CMV:

Commercial Motor Vehicle

A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:

  • Weighs 10,001 pounds or more
  • Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more
  • Is designed or used to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver) not for compensation
  • Is designed or used to transport 9 or more passengers (including the driver) for compensation
  • Is transporting hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placards

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

33 CFR § 101.514 - TWIC Requirement.

101.514 TWIC Requirement.

(a) All persons requiring unescorted access to secure areas of vessels, facilities, and OCS facilities regulated by parts 104, 105 or 106 of this subchapter must possess a TWIC before such access is granted, except as otherwise noted in this section. A TWIC must be obtained via the procedures established by TSA in 49 CFR part 1572.

Banks,

I looked through the TSA website and could not find where you could enter a Port without a TWIC card. If you have no TWIC card, you are required to have an escort. One of the State Ports (back east) listed the four acceptable Escort Duty companies for their Port.

I am in the Port of Oakland once or twice a week, you must have a TWIC card. Port of Tacoma and Port of Hueneme require a TWIC card or to be escorted. So I'm curious to know which ones don't require a TWIC card.

I looked through the TSA website and could not find where you could enter a Port without a TWIC card.

I think the question was just about containers, and if they required a TWIC. Not all containers come from ports, so a TWIC isn't always required.

I've pulled a lot of containers in and out of rail yards and I don't have a TWIC card, but I know the ports require them. That's why I said some do, some don't.

I don’t know about the rest of the country, but in Ga many container companies have facilities outside of the ports. Some drivers do just pickup/delivery at the ports, the rest are the road drivers and pickup/deliver from the company yard.

Hello again,

I have a small update. It is confirmed Western Express has me on their "no hire" list. I also am waiting for TransAm and PTL to run my information. P.A.M. has me on callback, and Roehl, Carolina Cargo, and C.R. England said no. It is also confirmed they have my reason of firing listed as a "citation for leaving the scene".

While that is true, I found the ticket/citation from the magistrate back when I paid the fine that does not list "leaving the scene" anywhere on the document. I'm not sure if that's where they would put it but all the documents I have concerning the incident do not list me as fleeing, only Western Express do. I do own up to my mistake but I was wondering if there was a way I could challenge their report? Maybe send a scan of the document to recruiters so they can see for themselves?

Hydra, there is absolutely no way to escape your situation. Trucking companies can get more info on you than the CIA.

Your best bet might be to get a class B driving job and let time correct your mistake

Also, I find it very ironic that you have the screen name Hydra and you hit a hydrant.
