Harvey, I do appreciate you posting this. And I believe it’s the first time it’s been discussed. So yes, thank you for that.

I apologize for being a hard ass on this…I just thought it hasty to make the call on the danger factor like you did without actually being there. And I understand that’s not possible.

I gave you every trick I know. If parking in a retail truck stop, they’ll throw salt most of the time, ask professionally if more is needed.

Maybe someone can add to this with something else. Best of luck to Michael and everyone trying to survive in bad winter weather. It occasionally gets icy down here… but it doesn’t last.

With all respect Harvey, you are not a professional driver. I have read through many posts in which you offer feedback and I will acknowledge that you often share valuable information. I do think that sometimes you overvalue your own input. When a professional driver with a sizeable amount of experience tells you that something you have put out there is needing correction, take heed to that.

G-Town doesn't need me sticking up for him here, but I want to bring this to proper focus. One person in this argument is a professional driver with an impeccable record and the other person is a family member of a driver who doesn't post on here himself. The professional driver with the impeccable record should have the last say on any matter trucking related.

No one here would seek to counsel you on whatever your professional expertise may be. Don't counsel any professional driver here on what is their expertise.

I have had my own word entanglements with G-Town and I will say that my own pride is typically what kept me from just acknowledging that he has a point, whether I liked the presentation or not. It's for this reason that I don't post as often as I used to. I made a choice to focus on being a better driver, a better husband, a better father.

To be clear, any worthwhile information is appreciated here, but it's counterproductive to have a non-driver trying to be equal to a professional driver in providing information and advice.

Okay, I’m tired of the Harvey bashing. Right or wrong, Harvey brings valuable perspective to the discussions. His posts bring up interesting issues that others comment on, both pro and con, and as a result there is much to learn. For example, the current topic about parking on ice was very informative. If Harvey hadn’t posted what he did, we wouldn’t have gotten the excellent details that were provided by G-Town and others.

As a reader here, I always enjoy Harvey’s comments. We all benefit from different perspectives and Harvey brings a unique perspective to the discussions. I don’t care that he isn’t a professional driver. His son is a driver and therefore Harvey is invested in the driving community as any father would be.

I don't think Ryan's post was "bashing".

It was presented with respect and articulated in a manner that I think we can all understand and relate to. I think trying to understand another person's perspective is important and serves to enable better communication. Ryan described a boundary, one that separates me and Harvey, intertwined by our respective "strong" personalities. At times neither refusing to budge. Often times it's the difficult discussions on this forum that typically produce the most compelling and interesting results.

I do agree with all of the points Ryan posted and also many that Bruce (BK) replied with also. Ryan wasn't bashing Harvey but pointing out what is obvious to many of us. There is however a clear personality conflict between me and Harvey. I'll do my best to work through it, but make no mistake, I'll will continue to press him when he posts something that falls outside of any best practice and reiterate that it's in the best interest of Michael that he be encouraged to join this forum to fend for himself. That said, I do not want Harvey to stop posting. There is absolutely value in having him contribute.

As is typical with this forum...like family,... in time we'll figure it out. And Harvey's unique and consistent perspective is a part of that.

I am okay G-Town and Bruce. I made my point and thought my comments were misrepresented but, in the end, some good advice was brought up that I thought was important enough to bring up the subject. That is what counts.

I understand my faults better than many realize. I know G-Town has a ton of experience and his feedback helped address this problem better than I or Michael could have done because of that. My lack of driving experience is obvious, but I can still identify problems easily enough and I think it is worth sharing and I typically only post when I think I have something useful to offer. On the bright side, the somewhat lengthy discussion will help some folks remember this problem better! :) I apologize for any aggravation caused but my intentions were good.

Since this post, I saw a large fuel tank loaded off-center on a flatbed the other day and snapped a photo of it when stopped behind it at a stoplight. I thought of sharing it here but was a bit reluctant after this latest back and forth banter. It seemed like a large potential risk and I was curious if my intuition was correct. I was really curious how this would be allowed to be unloaded this way. I assume my posts are still under moderation. If you want me to share this photo, please let me know in a reply to this post or email me (my email is in profile).

Peace.

You're not in moderation, and I'd love to see the photo. Start a new discussion with it. We love flatbed discussions. We have a bunch of drivers on here with many years of experience. They never miss a thing.

Thanks, Brett. After I saw my post went through without moderation I did decide to post the tank load in another thread here where I thought it might fit. I should have mentioned that up ahead this truck was on a very curvy levee road for 8 miles, though they did lessen the severity of the curves about 25 years ago.

Got my relay sent to me Monday night in Minneapolis to start my week. Going to Minot. Looks pretty nasty there. Could have made it to Fargo this morning. However with it being DG store deliveries I'd have to bring my light trailer back to Jamestown in the snow/ice and wind. Guess I'll head out tomorrow morning and see what happens.

Larry how did your trip go?
