I know that chain laws aren't new. I was in a Facebook group that a guys said he had to chain the trailer because of California's new requirements.

Don't the new California chain laws make you have to chain your trailer too?

I-80 across Donner's has been closed since Sunday afternoon. It is still closed.

US 58 between Bakersfield and Barstow had snow Monday night and the road was closed. Yesterday when I came through mid-morning it was wet but open. I got up to the Port of Oakland, got rid of my can and got an empty. Ran over this morning to Manteca to get my load and looked at my routing and US 58 is closed again. One of our drivers is sitting down there in the closure and he said it snowed last night and many trucks wrecked. It's closed while they clean the roads. Hopefully I will be loaded soon and then I guess we toss a coin to see which way I'm going to go. I'd rather go south I've chained up 5 times going over Donner's this winter!

That's nothing new. "Drag Chain" requirements have been in place in some states for years, including California. It all depends on the "Snow Chains Condition" or "Traction Laws" for a particular area set by state or local authorities.

Sorry I answered the question you asked about trailer chain requirements. I'll refrain from doing that going forward.

It's NOT a new law....trailers have had to be chained for quite awhile.

If only 4 chains are required, one set goes on the driver's and one set goes on the trailers. Had to do that back in 2015.

This card is given out every fall and thru the winter by CalTrans to all trucks.

Save that salt for the road, I was just specifying what I was asking. I didn't mean to sound rude or anything

Tejon Pass on I-5. Hwy 58 through Tehachapi was still closed when I went by that exit, so I took Hwy 138 to 14 and came out at Mojave. I got back on 58 and got a call from my dispatcher saying another driver was crossing 58 and it was good. That figures! But I do get paid for the extra miles 😁

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
