They aren't the first because they aren't even operating. They can't operate because they have no trucks. Big woop! They claim they've ordered 800 trucks. From whom did they order these trucks? There is nobody that can produce 800 trucks for them now. Nobody is at full autonomy. There's not even regulation written for driverless trucks on the road yet.

Heck, my driver assist technology in my truck never works properly. These tech companies all want to be first and they are racing to an unfortunate demise if they produce an inferior product. Years of beta testing is still needed. I laughed out loud at the title of your post. It's pure "Clickbait."

If self driving tech is anything like the safety systems in my truck, we are all secure for decades.

Freightliner is being investigated for false positives in the crash avoidance auto braking systems. The article I read mentioned 20 or so instances. Multiply that by 1,000, and it would still be a drop in the bucket.

Tuesday the 2024 Freightliner i was driving just randomly slammed on the brakes, when a car changed lanes in front of me. I was passing under a bridge so there was the shadow from that as well, which probably contributed.

scared the bee gees out of me to say the least.

One of the things I like about our trucks is they don’t have emergency braking, even the brand new ones. If it worked well I wouldn’t mind it but when I drove trucks with emergency braking systems I was always nervous it would phantom brake in snow or rain. I know there’s a push to require emergency braking on big trucks and I hope it doesn’t happen for a while, at least not until they finish working out the kinks

Yeah, I hated tht braking system, every time a car was taking a freeway exit, well within the exit lane, not in front of me. Soon as they hit their brake pedal, my truck(s) automatically, actived the brakes. First time it too scared the crap out of me. Also the black shiney tar they put over freeway asphalt cracks, sometimes activated it too. Ya just never knew when, or what would make it go off. Never had the issue driving along, since I didn't tail gate too close to anyone. Only couple times it happened if someone did a quick brake in front of me, cutting across lanes.
