I'll try to keep it short but thorough. I was a complete idiot about 5 months ago and have 2 pretty serious speeding tickets. I have one for going 93 in a 65, and the other is 119 in a 55. Neither tickets are reckless driving, and I know I'm a complete moron. I had just gotten a new car and wanted to see how fast it could go. I'm not trying to give excuses, just stating what happened.

I have found a company that will train me even with speeding tickets like that but my follow-up issue is that I can't pass a hair follicle test as of right now.

Ive been denied left and right which is what I expected, but any suggestions with low standards would be greatly appreciated!

To clarify too I am looking for a company that will train me to get my CDL.

Thanks in advanced!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I think it's worth mentioning I'd have no problem relocating to any part of the country.

Hello Sterling, and welcome to our forum!

You've got some serious issues. I know you already realize that, but probably don't understand how severe they are.

Let's start with what you referred to as a "follow up" issue. If you can't pass a drug test, you could possibly destroy your trucking career before ever getting started. Don't take that risk. Make sure you are clean and stay clean. I was randomly tested 9 times during my first two years as a professional driver. Once you fail a drug test you are basically out. Very few ever survive that scenario.

If you found someone who would take you with those two speeding tickets, I would jump all over that. That actually sounds miraculous. You are not likely to find any companies with lower standards than that. Of course you need to understand what form of drug testing they do. You absolutely cannot take the risk of failing that.

Two excessive speeding tickets in 5 months and unable to pass a drug test? You might want to look for a job as a dishwasher, not a job operating a huge truck on public highways. Please, for the safety of everyone.

You will need to wait until you can pass the hair follicle test, be clean off everything at least a year. There's a ton of threads on here regarding it.

Anything 15 and over is considered reckless for the purpose of insurance. You need to wait 3 years for those to clear your window. They will still show but ypur are hire able after 3 years. Most Companies will say what they allow.

You mentioned that a company will train you, that implies that you will have a cdl by the time you go with them. Will they also provide schooling to obtain your CDL? I suspect that you will find it almost impossible to get accepted with two recent high speed offenses. And you absolutely will not be hired if you can't pass, it will prevent you from getting hired elsewhere as well.

I am thinking this is a BS posting. Majority of states will charge you with reckless driving for going 25mph over the posted speed limit, and add the "super speeder" notation increasing your fines and putting you at serious risk of jail time. The 119 in a 55 is 60mph over the limit. In South Carolina that by definition is reckless driving and is a criminal charge. It would also have your license suspended for 30+ days. Jail time of 30 days. Around $500 in fines. If you received two reckless driving convictions in such a short time your license would be automatically suspended for an additional 90 days.

If this is a serious post, do the world a favor and don't get into a commercial driving profession.

Yikes!!! Sterling likes to see how fast his vehicle can go. What happens if he, God forbid, gets in a semi to drive? He gets up to the top of a long downgrade and lets the truck freewheel down the grade to see how fast it can go. Yikes, Yikes, Yikes.

Sterling, look into getting a job in NASCAR, please.

Yikes ! 119 in a 55 ??? In Calif, you probably would'a been taken to jail, had the car impounded and a big fat fine, with probably a 1 year minimum license suspension......
