Ok everyone....we've talked about getting the website redesigned and then creating hats, T-shirts, etc. Well I'm running a contest on a design website and I have a bunch of nominees that I like. Go ahead and place your votes. The contest ends July 11th and that's when I have to pick a winner. So I'd like to see what you guys think.

Everyone is welcome to vote! Even if you're browsing TruckingTruth and you're not a member - that's fine. Go ahead and place your vote!

The poll asks for your name and such - don't worry about that. This is anonymous. I just want to see if there's one or two that really stand out with everyone.

Thanks!

Voting done. Having been a graphic designer for many years, I added plenty of commentary!

Thanks Deb! I noticed that! I was laughing to myself thinking, "Is this one of the designers from the contest???"

All voted up! The one I voted best isn't winning though :(

Brett, after thirty years of designing logos and signs, to me it was a clear cut choice on which one I liked best, but I was just too tired tonight to leave you a bunch of commentary like Deb.

We're getting a ton of votes and it's a tight race! The comments have been outstanding. I've sent numerous ideas to the designers from the input I've been given during this voting so thanks a ton for that!

Brett, after thirty years of designing logos and signs, to me it was a clear cut choice on which one I liked best, but I was just too tired tonight to leave you a bunch of commentary like Deb.

It never dawned on me that you designed that stuff. I knew you said you were in the sign business but I pictured you dangling from the end of a rope attached to a crane like 60 feet in the air. I wasn't thinking about the design aspect of it. And I can't find your name in the voting so I don't know which one you voted on.

All voted up! The one I voted best isn't winning though :(

Thanks! There's almost a 3-way tie for first. Funny thing is one of the ones I liked best did the worst. So now I'm mad at everyone! rofl-3.gif

No, I'm not mad of course. Truth is I have no idea what people will like. That's why I used DesignCrowd to get a pile of ideas and then this vote to help me refine what's working and what isn't for you guys.

Actually the feedback has been a huge help. It really has. The votes will be rolling in through the night and the contest ends sometime tomorrow. I'll still be able to get changes made to existing designs after the contest ends so I'm sure there will be more tweaks before it's all said and done.

Oh, I forgot to mention.....we need a new motto! First, the definition of motto:

A short sentence or phrase chosen as encapsulating the beliefs or ideals guiding an individual, family, or institution.

Ok, our motto will go on the header image at the top of every page. Right now it says:

A positive yet honest view of the trucking industry with help and advice from experienced drivers

....we need to rewrite that. So what do you guys and gals think? We need a short phrase that really describes the essence of who we are and what we do here at TruckingTruth. This forum is at the heart of what we do and this website has always been about:

  • respect and kindness
  • supporting each other
  • honesty, even when it isn't what you had hoped to hear
  • answering every last question from each visitor we get
  • formulating strategies for getting careers off to a great start
  • preparing you for the realities of life on the road
  • preparing you for the cdl exams, training on the road, and those first few months running solo

Heck yeah we do a lot! And we do it 1000 times better than anyone else out there ever dreamed of doing it. And it's because we have the best family of people here you could ever hope to find. We came together over the years and the best of the best have all stuck around to help those coming into the industry behind them.

And not only do we have an awesome lineup of experienced drivers....but we have an astounding array of people from every career imaginable. We've had pilots, doctors, dentists, computer programmers, cops, robbers, cowboys, Indians, librarians, sailors, and musicians. And that was yesterday!

rofl-3.gif

We do a lot of awesome things and we help a ton of people in so many ways.

So who's going to be the hero that steps up and creates our next motto? I mean, how hard can it be? All you have to do is come up with a short phrase that clearly conveys every last aspect of our existence to anyone in the world within five seconds of walking through our door for the first time. Perfectly.

Yes, it's almost completely impossible. But someone is gonna come up with a killer one....just watch and see.

If you'd like to send me an idea but you want to keep it private, no problem at all. I'd love to hear it. Just email it to me at brett@truckingtruth.com or click on my name under my picture and send me a private message.
