That's awesome. That kind of thing doesn't happen often but it's great when it does.

"Professor X" ..... that's a great handle too.

It just goes to show that big ole American Big Rigs are still awesome to kids. Comes as no surprise cuz they're still awesome to me!

I was curious whether Old School or any one see this will pull the string (Oh, Volvo's different tho. Ya know, activate the air horn) when some kids in the city move their fore arm up and down to him/her?

Very cool. We need more "Professor X's" and fathers like his.

To the post before mine, I will yank that cord every time for a kid.

When we were traveling when I was a kid I ALWAYS waved at the truckers and never failed almost everyone would pull that string. Its where I fell in love with the american big rigs.

Old School,

44 years ago I was exactly like the kid you talked to. We used to RV all over the country with a trailer. Dad got a CB and I'd talk to the truckers. It was the coolest thing in the world for a 10 year old kid. Bulwinkle was my handle and still is to date. I eventually moved into amateur radio as an adult because of my interest in radios.

I remember buying a magazine called owner/operator at a truckstop and reading it as we went down the road checking out all the trucks on the highway thinking hey there's a white freight liner there goes a kenworth conventional. I'd see ads for jake brakes in the magazine then hearing truckers hit it as we went thru the mountains. Going over mount eagle and thinking about what would happen if they had to use an emergency ramp. Never missing an episode of movin on to see what would happen next to Sonny Pruitt.

Great story! Hitting the air horn for a kid must bring more happiness to the driver than the kid feels, lol

Old School, that was great. I nearly had tears in my eyes thinking about this and if that had been me when I was 10. I bet there are some kids in the "Make a Wish" program that would love to have had that experience too.

My wife does child care in our home and if they are playing in the front yard and hear a truck coming by they will try and get to where they can be seen to give him or her the "signal". Every time they reply in kind with a blast or two sends them running and screaming in delight. So if any of you ever find yourself on Stage Rd in Plainfield NH, (yah right) keep your eyes peeled and give that air horn a little practice. thank-you.gif

That's touching. I don't keep the cb on anymore sadly. The last thing I heard on the cb was some guy drowning everyone out ranting about the Jews. He was telling everyone that the Jewish bankers are the reason freight prices are down for o/o. I don't know if there's any truth to this as I am a company driver.

So I clicked the cb off and it's been off since.

Why? Cuz one guy said some dumb things? So you go a few miles to get out of range and turn it back on. Seems like quite the overreaction.

That is not the first time I have heard garbage talk on the cb.

I hear garbage when I go to the barber shop, but I haven't stopped getting my hair cut because of it.
