"Big Papi" I call him. He's the alpha male of the group. In fact, lately he's taken to chest-bumping my German Shepherd to get him away from the ladies. But Odin, my Shepherd, knows he's not allowed to retaliate so the turkey is spared for a few more days.

Brett, that reminds me of something I've been curious about. Sometime back I saw a video somewhere here in the forum where a "friendly" hawk showed up at your house. I was amazed and impressed at your dog's behavior and interaction with the hawk, but was even more intrigued with the interaction of the hawk with you guys. Twice I've rescued hawks who had been hit by a vehicle on the highway. I took them to a local vet and had their wing put in a splint, and then turned them over to a lady in our county who helps them return to the wild and be on their own. Both times the hawk tried to tear me to pieces. Of course they were already in pain and reacting from fear, but I have often wondered if you have ever seen that hawk again. I have never seen one interact that way with a human or a dog, and was curious if you knew any more about the bird. I've often wondered if he belonged to someone who had been training him for falconry.

On another note, are you going to be keeping your Thanksgiving tradition this year and cooking with your niece? I love family traditions like that.

Also, could you post that video in this thread so others can see what we are talking about?

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the TT family and I do consider all of you family. I'll be home for the holiday as well and with my wife will be continuing a tradition we've been doing for now our 6th year. We invite friends who may not have family or don't plan to travel over for a pretty decent spread, then collect stragglers on their way home from other obligations. Some come for dinner and the day, others stop in for the evening for coffee, bonfire and of course punkin chunkin. Everyone have a great and safe holiday! !!

I want to second that. There are some people in this forum that we can always count on to give fair, honest, helpful advice and you're certainly one of them. We really appreciate it. <

Thank you Brett! I think TT is a great resource for current and future drivers. Happy to contribute. Enjoy your Thanksgiving! Safe travels. G

I never saw the hawk again after that. I've seen hawks flying around but I don't know if it was this one or not. But I really have no idea why he was so tame. He had no markings on him or plastic rings or anything that indicated he had been handled by people but it seems impossible a wild hawk could be this tame.

There are two videos........

This year we're starting a new tradition. My older niece and nephew have their own places now and we're going to have dinner at my nephew's for the first time. I'm gonna have the turkeys processed and then brine one overnight. Then those guys take it from there.

We'll see how they do!

As docile as that hawk is, I'm surprised he didn't just climb on to your glove.

Your dog Odin is awesome! It could've gotten ugly a coupe of times with that hawk, but he played it cool.

Happy Thanksgiving to the TT family! Drive safe.
