Cashier Hijinks

It's 4am, I stopped at a Loves for coffee. Often the cashier will ask if you want to use points (means it takes longer to get a free CB.) or ring up $1.19 then credit you for free coffee.

Today there is a push to donate for Children's Miracle Network. Well there's only so many times you can add a dollar for this charity. I said "No".

The cashier then said the refill is one dollar. I asked "One dollar?" She nodded her head.

I handed over the dollar, and watched: she rang up the usual $1.19, credited that (I owe $0), then put a buck on CMN and scanned that balloon thing they'll hang on the wall with your name.

What a way to pad the donations for her shift!

Don't know that I could've let that slide. I know it's just $1 but

I did call & talk to the manager. She became v e r y interested. I've run C-stores. You can't let a cashier do anything funny.

Loves often gets you free coffee. You need their card and they ring up $1.19 then credit that. Loves is running a promotion asking for donations to Children's Miracle Network. Evidently my cashier was making the coffee free but still scamming a buck donation for her credit in the store donation contest.

What's the harm? In a way, nothing. But ethically the cashier was taking my dollar for a purpose I didn't intend. If she could get away with that, she could start her own money making scheme at that cash register.

I agree completely. You simply can't have that kind of thing going on.

I agree also. I'm sure it's a good cause. However, if I don't want to support a charity then don't make me. It would be ok if she took a dollar out of her pocket for each customer she helped that day. Then it is her donation.
