I always see socialists complaining about business owners getting rich off the backs of workers, talking about how they should give the lions share to the worker, because the worker actually earns the revenue, but I have never seen a socialist actually start a business and give the earnings to the workers. Why is that?

It does stand to reason, doesn't it? I mean, they seem to think that it's so easy to run a successful business and get rich from it that you should just give away the overwhelming majority of what you make. If that's the case then why don't those who dislike these rich, successful business owners become one themselves and then give away all of their money so they can be heroes and save the working class?? Stop telling us what the world should be like. Stop telling other people what they should be doing. Get out there and make it so yourself!

Throughout my previous career I always struggled to communicate with the “Academics”, book-smart pontificators void of meaningful shirtsleeves experience. I was and still am a devout pragmatist, making “sh**” happen with the materials and resources I have available. In the time it took others to whine and complain about an imperfect system, greedy management, rigid accountants, a flawed environment and inferior tools, I was on my way to solving the problem. Play the cards you are dealt, make it work. I use the same basic approach to trucking. It’s hasnt failed me and likely never will.

Tell us about your accomplishments Kit. Let’s hear about them. How is your philosophy bearing fruit and (ahem) “fertilizing eggs”? Tell us about all the young hens who follow you around, too stupid to know any better, gulping gallons of your toxic KoolAid. Tell us about them...”how they doin’?”

And as far as this forum? How does your disjointed diatribe help anyone trying to make a “go” in this industry? Tell us about all the Newbies that have succeeded applying your defiant approach to authority...tell us Kit. That “sh**” don’t play with any instructor, driver manager or dispatcher I know.

Sliced bread has been around a long time, it wasn’t your invention (figure it out smart guy). In stark contrast Old School’s wisdom, core values and knowledge has helped hundreds and hundreds of forum readers successfully start their careers for the good of this industry and economy. He is clearly an accomplished leader, one that I’d gladly follow. Yet, all that you are doing here is causing a distraction and disrupting the business of this forum. An island of 1.

I will not accept being told my approach to life or my business is wrong and cowardly by someone who represents the polar opposite of what I stand for and believe in; without offering a shred of tangible proof supporting the benefits of their contrarian viewpoint. To me you are nothing more than a “Monday Morning Quarterback” telling everyone how the losing team’s coach got it all wrong, having yourself only dabbled on the fringes of the game because you were not good enough to play on any serious level.

You proclaim yourself a music professor working as a part time local driver trying, to make ends meet (allegedly). Good for you, glad you are working... However that does not qualify you to judge harshly our collective values; what we do, what we accept and how we get it done? Peel back the layers here and it reveals the truth. The comments will tell you why this Black Smoke Matters group will not succeed. There is still name calling (steering wheel holder, etc), putting down drivers at Swift, JB Hunt, etc even though they want to help. It's actually a few old timers that want the old ways to come back and not realize that all professions change.

Forgive me if this has been answered already. What do you have to gain from this Kit? Are you a part-time O/O why exactly are you such a proponent of this black smoke matters "movement"/idea? Myself as someone who is new to the industry I don't see how I, as someone who will be in training or just finishing training, will benefit from even considering researching more about this minuscule event.
