I was on a horrendously bumpy interstate when my hand held shark vacuum switched on. It scared my cat so badly I heard him screech, and he jumped from the sleeper to the passenger seat. Then gave me a look "Woman, you almost killed 8 of my lives in one shot! Learn to drive better". Lol

Do you have any funny or stupid things that happened recently?

I was passing another truck on a two lane stretch of interstate when I hit a hill. I guess I slowed down more than I thought because it took a bit for me to get around him. I knew there was an SUV behind me and I was trying to hurry up and pass so they could get around me. (You know, mashing harder on the throttle even though it does absolutely no good!)

Well, I finally got back over into the right lane and let the SUV go by. I happened to look down as they were passing, and the at least 70 year old grandma in the passenger seat FLIPPED ME OFF!

I died laughing at this tiny little old lady with her church hat on flipping me off. And I still am chuckling about it two weeks later...

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Reading this ^^^^^ Funny!!!!! rofl-1.gif

I think I read recently you were contemplating becoming a trainer? What happens to your "Guard Kitty" if you do that?

The funniest thing that happened to me recently was a little kid to the left of my truck window in a WM parking lot, sitting in Mom's shopping cart, stuck his tongue out at me after I had waved to him. Freakin' North Jousey..."bring 'em up right".

Second to that...headed back MT, driving through Lancaster County last Saturday (Amish Country) I saw a sign on Rt. 10; "Stoltzfus Buggy Wash, Next Right - OPEN". It was 16 degrees...LOL.

A buggy wash? hahah

They said I can train with CDL holders only, so the teaming phase. My cat is declawed, doesn't bite, and is trained to stay away from me while driving.

My FMs exact words..."the cat doesn't bite. But you do. I'm more worried about you than the cat". Lol see how much he loves me??? Hahaha

Obviously I couldn't take cat haters or those with allergies.

I'm still in the air about the training. Its something I really have to think about. I think I'd rather mentor and be someone a newly solo can call at 0300 with "my tandems won't slide what do I do" type of thing. I have quite a few new people who call me daily for issues like this and we work on trip.planning and other things.

Its impossible to tackle every issue in training regardless of how long you are in it.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Tandems:

Tandem Axles

A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".

Just happened a second ago. PTL driver struggled to get in a spot for about 10 minutes. Literally half the lot is wide open just a few feet away, pull through spots everywhere. I did spot him on his blind side but still

But he was new and probably trying to practice. Don't you think?

You can practice without nearly hitting 3 or 4 trucks. I still practice 90s myself. I think he just didn't want to walk

Stupid; followed Jill (Qualcomm navigation) out of Orlando. Hey she brought me in, how bad could this be? Put me on a $6.50 toll road for two lousy miles. And probably the only toll my company won't reimburse. 😆

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Yes Rainy, a buggy wash. Due to their religious beliefs the Amish still use horse drawn buggys and wagons for their transportation.

You see lots of interesting stuff and signage in Lancaster County Pa. Their town names are just a clue how different things really are there...going west gotta pass through the village of BlueBall before reaching the bustling metropolis of Intercourse...a few miles more you arrive in the delightfully quaint town of Paradise. Can't make that up, totally true...

Rainy for the record, based on what I know of you, I think you'd make a fine trainer. Question is...would you be happy? Good luck with this decision, it's a tough one.
