If you carry a large picnic cooler in your truck, has anybody used dry ice instead of freezer packs? How does that work? And is dry ice hard to get?
I know you can buy dry ice at Meijer. I'll use dry ice sometimes for picnics if I need to keep something frozen but other than that I don't mess with it. It will burn you if you're not careful when handling it and the first time I used it it blew the hinges on my cooler off. If you don't want whatever is in the cooler frozen you might be better off sticking with regular ice.
Only good for frozen food, NOT refrigerated. It will freeze everything in the cooler. Ask me how I learned that one....

How did you learn that one?
I bought dry ice one time to keep raw meat frozen while OTR. I had no idea what it actually was. I took it out of the packaging and gripped it in my hands to put it in my cooler.
I almost died.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Lucky your fingers didn't end up in the cooler, too. Instant freezing of anything it contacts.
Do not use dry ice in a confined space. It is frozen carbon dioxide. It gives off carbon dioxide gas. It will cause suffocation. Buy a Dometic portable 12 volt refrigerator if you can afford one. About $400.

Went to burning man a few years back, thought I was ahead of the game using dry ice in my cooler instead. Froze everything lol.
