We sacrifice a lot of "normal" things when we head out to training or OTR. Taking a nice relaxing bath anytime you feel like it, going to a movie theater or mall, or even going to dinner with a friend. We all want what we dont have, so when we see it, we get excited.

After being on the road, simple things in life excite me such as cheap laundry with front load washers. Or a free shower on the OH turnpike.

What perks your ears and eyes with excitement?

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I enjoy putting something in the smoker and relaxing on my patio with a cold beer. When its ready eating something besides truckstop food or takeout.

Driving my personal vehicle really makes me happy when i come home. Going from an enormous semi, to a little Toyota Tacoma with a fun, manual trans just makes me smile every time. I usually spend an hour driving around town right off the bat every time I get back

I get a kick out of driving on a stretch of road I’ve never been on before. It seems like there are fewer roads I’ve never seen.

I like seeing the changing of the seasons, and the different times they occur in different areas of the country.

I like getting a difficult backing problem every now and then (as long as it works out).

I like it when a shipper or receiver gets me out in under a half hour in the dock. This happens so seldom I should probably write it down.

I like getting a bypass signal when I encounter a chicken coop.

I really enjoy Vail Pass when it’s not snowing and the chain laws aren’t in effect.

I like open delivery times on drop and hook dispatches.

I like picking up a new empty and having all the lights operating, all the tires in good condition, and the inside has been swept out by the last driver.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

I like driving my toys and going to work on my "happy place in the woods" we are getting a driveway cleared and the cabin shell should be completed the first week of july when we take our vacation. Having a blast today playing with my grandson, who'll be 2 in August. It's a fun age. I have another grandbaby on the way by my youngest. She'll find out what she's having very soon.

Well, I'm not driving right now for at least 6 more months, so just seeing a truck going down the road excites me. It was all a great adventure for me.

What I enjoyed most was getting pre-assignments and seeing where I was going next. Sometimes the anticipation was better than the reality, but it was still great to get a pre-assignment on my tablet, get the Atlas out and do a pre-trip plan.

Congrats susan. Being a grandpa is the best job I’ve ever had. I have been able to visit with mine 4 of 6 months this year. Has been awesome. I too own a place in the woods. I love it. The deer don’t cause problems like neighbors do, lol. I enjoy driving my toys, but sitting in the yard with a cold beer and great country music playing is my happy place.
