Yay! Penndot has opened 3 driver license centers in PA today!

It’s Time to get studying again. I’m excited to get the chance to move forward again.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Woohoo! Hopefully it doesn't turn into an all day affair getting your permit. I recently moved and I dread the day offices open up and I need to change license. Libraries have kiosks to change address but CDL holders can't use them.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Pa DOT is woefully antiquated and technologically compromised.

So I’ve been studying the High Road Program for the last few weeks. I really like the review feature. It helped me learn, understand and retain the information. This week I have been taking the practice tests. I’ve scored well on them, only 1 maybe 2 wrong on some sections. I feel ready to take the written and get my CLP.

Though, this COVID-19 has really done a number on trying to get my affairs in order. I just ordered a new birth certificate. So I hope to have it in the next two weeks. My passport just expired, I need to get my application sent off. Tomorrow, I’m going to license center to get my renewed personal taken care of. OY!

I have always kept focused on moving forward, and not let things unravel me.

I’ll get there, soon.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

I cant agree with you more on this statement, I have the same mindset!! I am about to start getting the ball rolling myself. Gonna get my physical soon so I can submit the paperwork for the KTA card. Getting that card may take awhile since Harrisburg is slow to begin with, then add the backup due to covid shutdown to the process. Plus, the lines at the DMV’s here in Delco are stretching down the street and around the corners. Gonna let that rush subside a bit as well. My 4 days on, 3 off schedule driving for Amazon is also good for the summer so I’m around for the kids. My goal now is to be in Richmond training by end of summer

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Thank you for following.

I'm headed to PennDOT on Friday with my CLP application and self-cert form. PennDOT will give me a KTA (Knowledge Test Authorization) form. This form is used to tell PennDOT what Class, restriction removals, and endorsements I intend to pursue/test for.

Next week, I'll be reviewing and studying up on anything that needs work. Thereafter, test for permit.

And off to school in November, I hope.

Good! About time to get after this thing wholeheartedly, Bullitt!

Still following your journey.
