Hey all, I am about a month into TNT at Prime. So far things have been great. I came in as a C seat since I had my CDL and went right out in the flatbed with a trainer. Things were going great but my bionic arm that was rebuilt while I was in the Army just wasn’t as good as the 6 million dollar man and caused too many issues. The trainer was phenomenal and I learned so much in the month we were together.

I decided to switch to tanker as I found it a lot more interesting than reefer , so a quick call and the following week I was setup with a new trainer. Once this trainer showed up to pick me up I had a guy feeling that something was off. First off I don’t smoke but he does, second his truck is a disaster, food empty bottles, dirty laundry eveywhere. The truck is rancid. To add to this, his pants are always falling off his ass, not just crack, but while ass and then he sits on the seats. While I was driving and he somehow came through from the sleeper to the passenger seat it was all ass in my face, bare ass. I’m grossed out, everything is covered is something sticky.

For you Prime people, is this ground that I can call my fleet manager to get a new trainer?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Fleet Manager:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

TNT:

Trainer-N-Trainee

Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.

The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.

The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

I'd just stick it out, TNT is such a short amount of time. Keep your eye on the goal. Take iniative to clean yourself. I don't think there are a great many tanker trainers.

Just tell yourself the sticky is from the melted drumsticks. You are taking one for the team on this one. You have my support.

All joking aside, how long is a typical TNT phase with Prime now? Would it really be unreasonable to request another trainer if faced with a situation like this? I would have a hard time agreeing to something that bad.

Send the pictures to your fleet manager through an email and request a new trainer. The FM may give you another trainer on his fleet which means he doesn't lose a student All Prime email addresses are:

first initial last name@ primeinc.com

If that doesn't work, call the main switchboard and ask for the Tanker Operations Manager who is above your FM.

That is disgusting. if his truck is like that, you know his truck is not DOT compliant.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

We are heading on 78 west stuck at an accident now, Could I just have him drop me off at the Pittston Terminal. I will even just get an Uber to get out of here. Those pictures don’t even do it justice.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I'd highly suggest getting the approval from Prime first. If you get off the truck with them being unaware it may be treated as you're quitting. We know the reasons why you want off, now communicate it with Prime to come up with a game plan. I dont blame you for wanting off the truck, I would as well, but you gotta do it the right way. If you tell them the issues you're having theyll get you into a terminal ASAP.

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

FM routing me now, should be there in a couple hours....apparently I am not the first trainee that had to get off this guys truck.

That's ****ing disgusting ! You're a trainee, NOT an animal. Always work the chain of command though. Being it up to your trainer. If no results, send those pics to your fleet manager. NO ONE, should have to live in that mess. Like its been said, if he can't keep the inside of his "house" cleaner than that, I'm sure the DOT stuff is neglected as well.
