My recruiter informed me that Prime has postponed orientations for two weeks. I was scheduled to begin orientation March 23, but will now begin April 6.

I am posting this solely for informational purposes and this post should not be interpreted as fueling the flames of the current panic. I understand that the CDC and other governmental agencies have made certain decisions in response to the COVID-19 virus. I also understand that private corporations have made decisions in response to the governmental agency decisions.

I feel disappointed that my adventure in trucking is postponed and this will also affect me financially because I will not have income for an additional two weeks.

However, I feel no animosity toward my recruiter or the management at Prime. I still believe they are a good company and I remain committed to pursing my new career as soon as I am allowed. As far as I am concerned this is nothing more than a temporary set back similar to what others have experienced and what I am sure I'll experience once I become a truck driver for Prime.

That sucks, but I expect more companies to do the same soon. My mom got a job as a school bus monitor and with Illinois closing the schools she only worked last week and today supposedly they will go back on the 30th at best.

Hopefully it doesnt go on any longer than already planned.

Marc,

I will hang in there.

I've even more disappointed that it gives you two more weeks up on me in our competition.

Sorry to hear that Rob.

In PA, they keep closing the dmv offices. It's getting harder to test for permit. I just shot a msg off to Swift about their status and training. I'll keep TT updated what I find.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

If more companies postpone training, maybe Brett will want to change this thread title to more a general one.

BTW, when I spoke with my recruiter, she said they learned about 15 minutes before she called me.

It's like being back in the Army.

Sorry to hear about your delay Rob. It's strange that as I drove past the TMC terminal today I asked myself how long before company paid schools stop bringing students in, or even have orientations. Hopefully its not delayed any longer.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Oh man that's a hard setback to weather when you consider how your nerves are probably already somewhat jumbled up to begin with.

I still have complete faith in you giving a solid showing in your competition with Marc, however.

You know it man. I was thinking this morning that this is my first Monday off of work and was waiting to post my training diary until after I spoke to my recruiter. Good thing.

Don't worry, once I get going I'll do my best to represent Prime flatbedders (and alumni) in the competition.

Yes but like I said... I won't take (advantage of) it!
