When you get time, if you could share your experience with Western I’d appreciate it, I’m looking at paid school in Murfreesboro here in the next couple weeks...

Hey Mike, I hope you do okay on your driving test.

I'm assuming you are doing their program where they pair you with another driver in a similar situation as yours. They run you guys as a team so you can kind of help each other get back into driving, then after you show some competence they let you guys run solo. Is that still how they operate their "refresher?"

I started my career at Western Express. I had a great experience there - I learned a lot about how to operate efficiently and professionally. I also learned a lot about how not to conduct myself from the terminal rats - unfortunately they were everywhere.

If you show an ability to be productive, they will run with you and keep you booked up. If you're obstinate and not that interested in getting with their way of doing things you will starve to death. That's no indictment of Western Express. It's how things work in trucking. Those who are able to accomplish things keep getting pushed to the top. The others create their own form of failure.

Remember this... everytime you hear another driver complaining - everytime you're tempted to fall prey to thinking "this company sucks!" - you just remember, "Old School was very successful here." You will learn how to succeed there or you will learn how to fail there. Always keep that in mind. Whichever way it goes for you will follow you to your next gig, so do what it takes to make a successful run there.

You are always welcome here with your concerns and questions. We've all been through this and we can help you make the right choices on how to make a good run at this.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I passed mainly because I was driving an automatic. At Wiley I couldn't remember how to shift to save my life. I am a fan of automatics as of right now. Now I just wait for my trainer

Congratulations sir! You're on your way now - hang in there. Time with a trainer can be tough - keep your head in the game and you'll survive. There's a golden opportunity ahead, just keep it alive.
