Why not share the school i formation? Address, phone, etc., let other people know what to avoid if they don't like such teaching methods.

^^^^ THIS! The school’s info will NOT be shared, because it doesn’t exist. FedEx would never put itself in a position to be held accountable for such irresponsible training practices. I wholeheartedly agree with G-Town that this is BS.

I can fully see a bad instructor trying to be super trucker instructor and pulling a hot swap.

Unfortunately, there are some reckless people out there. Back in the day, we're talking decades ago, they did not consider anyone who cared about safety to be a "real man." Remember, hockey goalies didn't use face masks and men who built skyscrapers were not tethered to anything. To this day you'll notice most street skateboarders won't wear a helmet even though they routinely hit their head on steel or concrete. To some people, you're just not a tough guy if you care about safety.

To me, you're not too bright if you beat yourself to death or kill yourself when you could have done something very simple to protect yourself. But hey, we all have our own way of looking at things.

Also, as far as the believability of this story, don't forget Kearsey's trainer actually peed in her drink! She went through medical hell because of that. She had a long list of crazy trainer stories and sadly enough, all of them actually happened.

Knowing the mindset of super truckers, almost anything is possible. "Truth is stranger than fiction"

The teachers are real cool when talking to but I feel like they expected me to already know how to drive a truck and trailer. I'm just curious if you guys went into your first course and already kind of got the hold of things or if your experiences were as overwhelming as mine? I really felt horrible out there, when things were good of course I felt like the king of the road but when a turn would come up or I had to start merging into traffic I knew sh*t was getting real and that he was most likely going to intervene.

Most people are completely overwhelmed early in their training. That's normal. Trucking schools train drivers as quickly as possible. They push you hard. I even did a podcast on this topic:

Episode 5: Why Is Truck Driver Training Done In Such A Rush?

We would all love to take our time and learn things at a comfortable pace, but these schools and companies must turn a profit. The more time they spend training people, the more costly it is. They do not train drivers based on what would make the driver comfortable. They train them quickly and efficiently, which is quite stressful for the student. That's not ideal, but like most things in life there's a fine line between efficient training and insufficient training. Everyone tries to walk that line.

Okay...

I think we can all agree on the behavior of Riccardo’s trainer as negligent, dangerous and unprofessional. If it actually happened on a truck with a stick shift, I consider both trainer and student contortionists and extremely lucky.

Anyone with a modicum of common sense would have immediately realized this and reported it to school management.

I’ve been around for a long time and been around trucks since I was 18. In this situation two people had to actively participate in this so-called HitSwap. In my 44 years of experience... never heard anything like this.

So,... sorry 😣 no Riccardo there is nothing you can do to convince me your story as told is believable and 100% true. Only you know for sure... only you know your motivation for introducing yourself and sharing your story with the forum.

Carry on.

Https://ecoleconduite.ca/ TransCanada Many schools here in Quebec actually start at 1500+, I chose a 30hr program so its costing me 2800$.

I haven't seen one for 5000 yet, at least not in Quebec.

Thanks for the replies guys, Take care

I spoke to another trainer who helped me back today, and yes he said its common in the industry here we have a government run program CFTR that is a 6 month course for only 100$ and mandatory late 2023 in which I'd assume they have a training pad

Was this “hot swap” done in a sleeper truck? You said that’s what truckers call it but I’ve never heard of such a thing. Ever. And you said you paid 3,000 Canadian Pesos? A quick google search says cdl schools in Canada cost around 5,000 minimum. Too many holes in this story.

And if it’s honestly true you may want to reconsider a trucking career. That fact that you had to ask if this is normal is just as outrageous as the fact that you complied with such a dangerous maneuver. Do you understand what would of happened if you did get in an accident? “ o sorry officer we were just hot swappin!!!!” Your career would of been done before it even started. You should of immediately made your way towards the shoulder, popped the brakes, hazards on, and than swapped.

I was asking if going out on road day 1 as opposed to training in a yard was normal, not the swapping of drivers. I know its ridiculous and believe me I do not want to do such stupid tricks- ever he just got out and at the moment I felt it safest just to get in the seat.

Most schools in Quebec cost 1500 to 4000 for manual depending on hours. I have 30 hours.

I posted the link but please out of respect do not harass them !

Actually, "Canadian Peso's" is a slang term Canadians use for the Canadian Dollar.

"Canadian pesos"?

Did Todd make a jump over the border?
