“ both Schneider and rhoel and none of their stuff really interested me too much. They're terminals are perfect for me though.”

Understood. I hope you find the perfect match for you.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Just about 3 years solo now, and am looking to get into something dedicated. Unfortunately we dont really have those where I'm at now. I love Millis but I never know what's next and I realize some people like that about this job but I've never been able to wrap my head around it. I'm based out of chicago so a terminal nearby would be nice, because I'm single and I cant really park my personal car at a gary indiana truckstop for weeks at a time. Any suggestions? I'm very picky, like I said I love millis and its gotta be the right situation. More pay which means +.61 cents roughly same hometime, 3 weeks out 4 days off. Any ideas?

Have you looked into J&R Schugel, where PackRat just graduated to?

Also; here in Ohio, Garner Transportation would have lanes you are looking for.

Lastly, have you thought about 'daycabbing?' FAB Express is all around you; numerous yards. Tom's been there almost 6 years. Don's been there over two, I believe.

Just my 2cents, for now; best wishes & following!

Glad you made it, it is pretty ugly down here right now.

Tomorrow in Indiana is looking bad too, bunch of snow and ice.

Where I do my meet is supposed to get a half inch of ice and another 2 inches of sleet.

I'm taking a load to newburg PA that's due friday. Not sure how I'm supposed to get there by then. Its right in the ice band and its winding backroads to a farm delivering calf formula.... should be interesting.

FAB Express is based out of Lemont/Joliet, IL ; they run IL, IN, WI, MI, and PA ... I might be leaving something out. Dedicated hauls for International Paper Company; hauling corrugated (boxes) to various consignees, ie: Chewy, Smucker's, Heinz, Campbell's (Don's favorite,) Pepperidge Farms, ViX Secret, to name a few. We have little to NO problems with them, whatsoever. Easy job, for good money! I can forward the 'Go To' Phone # if it's anything you'd like to look into further; skip the 'commissioned' folks with the run arounds, haha!

There's been a 'rave' about Marten Transport lately too; Donna (from Prime) just recently joined ranks with them; she has a thread you can look into, just called 'Marten.' A few other TT members have chimed in; looks pretty good!

Garner Transportation is located here in Findlay, Ohio and has an OC in Indiana; not sure where. If Tom were to go back OTR , he'd go with them. We've been to their facility. Totally top notch; amazing amenities in their trucks. Regional , mostly dedicated, as well. They've been in the TSA's Top 20 Fleets for the last 6 years, too.

K & B Transportation is another decent gig, for experienced drivers. They reach out to Tom, once every couple of months. Pack even looked into them somewhat, himself.

Whilst we await PackRat's advice, hope this helps!

Best to ya, man~!

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

J & R has a number of dedicated accounts. That's about all I know about the possibilities....I have no details because I'm OTR 48 states for the past two weeks. Everything here so far had been okay. Shoot me a text if your interested and I can give you some more contact info for the company, ie whom to talk with.

Thanks, Anne. I know Im being picky, but out here in AZ there isnt much on the local side where I live, and Phoenix and Flavstaff are both about an hour and a half away for a local. There is an Ace, but Im not crazy about doing a DG / FD / DOT Foods type of dedicated. I am looking at a pneumatic outfit dexicated between pboenix and Vegas, park near home on the weekends. Just looking for something without 5-6 days in the cab on the road

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

I know, I have a 'knack' (not like the band, haha!) about digging up 'unresolved' topics.

Anything going on w/you, Mr. Mudge? Did XPO not work out? I know, you've been hanging out & posting (which I love!) but nothing about you, and your search.

How about Noob???? ANY THING CATCH 'YOUR' EYE?!?!?

Best to all, always! Just me,

Thanks for touching base, Anne. Four weeks to the day that we had our last convo, I sent her a message (her preferred contact method as she informed me in the first contacts) asking if there was any kind of update on the zone position. Still waiting for a response. Friday AM will see a phone call - I suspect that there may have been a changing of the guard, or I was just ding-dong-ditched.

In any event, still looking, but may wind up taking a different kind of driving job. Anyone that was ever in Basic Training knows the old "Which of you Privates has a driver's license with you?" Drill Sergeant trick. The ones that got all excited, thinking they were gonna get to drive the Post Commander's late teen aged daughters around post got their rude awakening "Good - then you, you, and you go drive those lawn mowers over to the parade field and mow it. Make sure you don't miss any places." while pointing to three ratty-arsed push mowers. I may start driving the grocery carts out of the building to the curbside pickup location... :)
