Ive been driving local for about a year now, i drive 2 hours there get loaded then 2 hours back get unloaded and go home, and i fuel at the yard. With this being my first driving job ive never been to a truck stop. But sometimes id like to stop and grab a coffee, pop, or a snack but never do as i dont really know where to park i dont want to take up a fuel island and i dont want to back into a spot to run in for 2 minutes. Are there pull through spots or is it acceptable to just pull through a fuel island and park infront of it and park for a minute? Thanks

That's it Ron - that's how you do it. Just don't sit there for more than 12-15 minutes. You won't be bothering anyone if you just go in and make your purchase, maybe use the restroom, and then move on.

I sometimes do it even when I do not need to fuel, but need a 5 minutes bathroom time.

Since I have a set and can't back up into a spot I'll either pull past the pumps as suggested or park in a pull through paid spot. Just don't take the paid spots at night as they are booked, when I do it there are always a bunch of empty ones.

During most normal days, there are numerous places to park at many truck stops. Pulling through the fuel island for a limited amount of time is just one of them. There are usually pull through places (definitely my favorite), or right up tight adjacent to the CAT scale. I don’t like truck stops at night or when they are crowded, I prefer highway rest stops, industrial parks, strip malls, etc. Even when truck stops have curb space that is marked “no parking”, it is seldom enforced when the truck stop is not crowded. Parking can be a challenge whether short term or long term but it’s all just part of the fun and adventure

CAT Scale:

A network of over 1,500 certified truck scales across the U.S. and Canada found primarily at truck stops. CAT scales are by far the most trustworthy scales out there.

In fact, CAT Scale offers an unconditional Guarantee:

“If you get an overweight fine from the state after our scale showed your legal, we will immediately check our scale. If our scale is wrong, we will reimburse you for the fine. If our scale is correct, a representative of CAT Scale Company will appear in court with the driver as a witness”

What do they pay you to go drive 2 hours down, get Dubbed Down & then Run back 2 hours with it? Do you pick the same stuff of each time?

If you’re going to make a quick stop at a truck stop, try to plan it at a truck stop not in a city. The fuel lanes might have two or three trucks in each lane. There might not even be any places for creative parking. The truck stops outside of the cities usually have better parking. If you only want a bathroom break and snack, many rest areas have vending machines.

It depends on the truck stop and how busy it is. Often times I'll pull up past the pumps and run in quick. If the fuel islands busy I'll just go park in a designated spot. It really doesn't take that long to back into a spot and I'd rather take the extra minute to park in a legal spot than be found partially at blame if someone hits my truck because I got creative in finding a spot.

What time of day you're running in would affect what you do though. If you're stopping at say 2am parking in an actual spot isn't likely to be an option. I avoid going to the big chains (pilot/J, loves TA/Petro) if I'm just wanting to run in quick because they always fill up quick and fuel islands are packed all the times it seems. In my area we have a few Kwik Star/Trip that have many fuel islands. I've gotten away with parking at the pump (some don't have space to pull forward) in the middle of the night when only 2 of the 10 pumps are in use. If you're wanting to stop at 10am the parking area will be pretty wide open but pumps may be packed.
