Congratulations man
A few weeks ago I got laid off from the Property Management Co I was working for due to lack of work. I had planned on starting my trucking career 2 years ago but was delayed by covid, then by an injury. The time had come. I poked around the internet from company to company and submitted applications to all the local LTL companies that offer training programs. Went on a few interviews, got a few offers.
While waiting for the background checks to be completed I went and got my DOT med card(2 yr) and took the class A permit with double/triple and tanker endorsements
Happy to report that I will be going with ABF freight. I attended orientation today and will start my training Mar 7
I will start a training diary and do my best to keep it updated
Lastly. Thank you Brett and all the moderators and regular contributors here. This site truly is a treasure trove of knowledge and I am far more prepared for this journey then I could have ever dreamed of
Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.
Great news! Congratulations and best wishes.
FINALLY!
Great to read that you are finally getting started. Good luck.

They have 3 locations in the Philly area. One in Philly, Oaks/Norristown and Aston/Chester. I’ll be working out of the Aston/Chester terminal. My terminal runs all of Delaware county, some Chester county/Lancaster and northern Delaware and Maryland.
I will be training at the Pine Brook terminal in north Jersey. Its a 6 week program, training for pre trip, maneuvers and road test. Yard training, hostler, couple/uncouple doubles. Dock training, loading/unloading, procedures, barcoding freight/paperwork, etc… Then 3 weeks finishing training on road with a trainer.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

Congratulations, ABF is a great company and I've heard nothing but good things about them.
Everyone I have been in contact with, either in person or by phone/email has been very friendly, pleasant and welcoming. They are a very professional, high standard company but encourage a we’re all family here culture. Everyone I met yesterday, office and drivers have been there at least 20 years. Heard “your gonna love working here” more times then I can count
