Our P&D guys have to deliver to a prison here, they inspect you comimg and going and a guard rides with you. They said the outside dock is fine but the inside dock is a huge pain.
Local drivers that stay around their area, usually within 100 mile radius of a terminal, picking up and delivering loads.
LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers for instance will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

I've never had an escort (or passenger) at a correctional facility, however I frequently did when I delivered to Facebook with PFG. Go there 3 times a week (5 days a week my last 6ish months) and still made me wait quite often for an escort. Loading docks were literally empty absolutely nothing except a pallet jack and a few empty pallets yet the kitchen guy was often instructed to not let me in unless security is on the dock watching us, and of course the person to escort me wouldn't come in to watch.
Also with PFG I went to the Federal Court house a few times and had the truck and backpack searched everytime. I was asked typical questions about weapons, knives bombs etc. He over reacted to me having a multi-tool in my bag that had a blade on it even though I let him know beforehand. We Still had to walk through metal detectors inside and feed every case through their xray/metal detector everytime so I don't understand his reaction. It was always entertaining though when someone planned poorly and were running late just to get stuck behind us. Multiple times the feds told people to chill out before they're forcibly emoved from the property.

My buddy has been at the Chino, Ca prison the last 2 days, servicing their Canon copiers....The south eastern part of Chino, all those dairy farms have been swallowed up for developement, planned communities, and LOTs of new warehouses...NO mo' MILK comin' outta there now lol 1 warehouse does sport 3 metal bulls/cows on the corner, maybe a tribute to times gone by lol

Way back when I was delivering beer, our company also delivered those stupid 5 gallon water cooler jugs. Every few weeks one of us would have to go and deliver 10-15 bottles of water to one of the local state prisons. There was no loading area for us to use so we had to hand truck it in through security and the metal detectors, check in and they’d just let us into the general population area. We had to walk past some cells then out into the yard with all the prisoners and no escorts. So I’m pushing 5 bottles (which break into nasty shards) at a time on a big metal hand truck with a blade sharp enough to slice a beer can open in the middle of their exercise yard. Luckily I never had any problems but it was very eerie being in there with no kind of protection from those guys at all. The warden would come out and check our vans while we were inside because one of the guys left one unlocked with the keys in the ignition one day 😂

For a delivery today
. I've been to several jails and prisons delivering LTL/contract freight around the area. Each one is setup differently and it's very important you follow their rules. I've been to a couple that inmates unload you, and others you unload yourself or are forced to stay in your truck.
Today's delivery was my first time going to this particular correctional facility in Muscatine IA. I wouldn't normally take this route but it's an extra day of work and it'd get me more hours than the other choices.
