Well there might be a valid question/point about being a minority in the trucking world in there somewhere (and I'm gonna get to that question on my own in due time). Or it it's just a troll post looking for responses. Can you butter the popcorn all the way thru the bag please? Gracias!

I am a 66 year old atheist, who is very annoyed that the Christian Chapels around the country don't include any other faiths. I am quite sure that drivers who are Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, and atheist must feel pretty left out. However, when it comes to atheism the way people react to me makes me feel almost like a traitor to the country. I served in the Air Force for 8 years, and when I told people that I am an atheist, and have been one since I was 15 years old, they act like I was the one who planned the attack on Pearl Harbor. Some of these people actually believe that I worship the devil. When only people who believe in God believe in the devil. I have always wanted to believe that discrimination was not being taught in society today, but ministers still teach believers that if a person does not believe in God, then that person is evil. My wife has loved me for all of our 37 years of marriage. Why can't people just let others be themselves without insulting them.

If you believe there is no God, then how can anyone be left out of worship to a Being you don't believe exists?

I am a 66 year old atheist, who is very annoyed that the Christian Chapels around the country don't include any other faiths.

Why are you annoyed by this? I'm serious. What do you care? Are you annoyed when you see mosques or synagogues or reading rooms or temples of other faiths, or is it just at truck stops that you get annoyed by seeing people practicing their faith? Many faiths are exclusive.

Are you annoyed by Masons and private golf clubs and the dining room at Harvard reserved for certain scholars? Fraternities? The VFW?

I am quite sure that drivers who are Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, and atheist must feel pretty left out.

It's refreshing to have someone speak up for these silent folks. I know it's been a while since I've heard anything from any actual members of the first three of these groups about how they feel, so I'm glad you've taken the time to give them a voice.

However, when it comes to atheism the way people react to me makes me feel almost like a traitor to the country. I served in the Air Force for 8 years...

Thank you for your service.

....and when I told people that I am an atheist, and have been one since I was 15 years old...

Did they ask, or did you volunteer that information? It's been a while since I asked a stranger what they believe, whether religious, political, or otherwise. Nor have I been asked my beliefs by anyone I've met in this business. Are you sure you're not the type to pick a fight? That generally ends badly, and I have believed that since I was 15 years old.

...they act like I was the one who planned the attack on Pearl Harbor.

It's a sad commentary on public education when anyone thinks a 66 year old could've attacked Pearl Harbor....google it, young people.

Some of these people actually believe that I worship the devil.

You can serve Satan without worshiping him. He doesn't care so much, as long as you're not worshiping God. There are verses in the Holy Writ that teach this, but I don't want to annoy you.

When only people who believe in God believe in the devil.

Actually, I've known quite a few folks who believe in the devil but don't believe in God. (You remember that old Three Dog Night song "And When I Die"?) And sadly, many people who believe in God don't believe in the devil.

I have always wanted to believe that discrimination was not being taught in society today, but ministers still teach believers that if a person does not believe in God, then that person is evil.

A good minister will teach that all people are evil, including christians. Again with the verses and not annoying &c.

My wife has loved me for all of our 37 years of marriage.

You have been blessed! I say this not to annoy you, but I don't believe in luck or fate.

Why can't people just let others be themselves without insulting them.

This is by far the wisest statement you have made here. Why indeed is it so hard for you to let people be themselves and worship God?

(I know guys and gals, don't feed the trolls...unless it's good food.)

There are no atheists in a truck....

Praying DOT does not pull you over

Praying they don't do a level 1

Praying the scale is closed....

Praying that you get through this blizzard your got caught in

Praying you don't get caught in rush hour traffic

Praying you don't hit the truck you are trying to park next to.

Praying you don't get hit by the truck parking next to you.

Praying your truck will stop before you crush the 4 wheeler that just pulled in front of you.

I could go on and on....rofl-3.gif

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Patrick G.'s Bio:

I am a 25 year old from Iowa who has always had no interest in sports, or marriage, or drinking. I am an atheist who thinks religion is just a formalized and ritualized mental disorder.

I thought you were 66, according to this post. Also 8 years in the USAF means you enlisted when you were (25-8=) 17 or younger. And you have been a trucker since 2014, (bumping back your enlistment age to 16), having worked for 4 trucking companies since May 2014.

Nice catch Errol!

Seems this person likes to start threads to bait people into blasting him for one reason or another but he must be starting to figure out he's in the wrong place for that. He came to the one forum where we always try to help everyone and be respectful of everyone's opinions. And he was given a ton of thoughtful and intelligent answers to his questions.

Patrick, you introduce yourself as an atheist in your bio and you keep asking questions in various threads that would normally get people blasted to smithereens in any other forum. Your story is never the same in any two posts, either. Your age varies and your experience varies, but you always have some paranoid question about insurance companies controlling you or Christians excluding you but rarely anything "real" about trucking and you never participate in the conversations you start. I don't know what to make of it.

He's just fighting the good fight. How else could this world control the population if we didn't get really mad at each other about religion?

I was going to say something about the intolerance of certain sects of a middle eastern religion - but I do enough of that on FB. I keep my stuff on here, about trucking.

There's was a guy not too long ago - that was asking about how to get to church on the road. He got many very good suggestions about how to pull that off.

I wonder the same things about trying to get to A.A. Meetings on the road - but I'm resourceful - I'll figure it out.
