Well I've been here for 2 days now. They wanted my inverter fixed and get a front end alignment done. Any Swifties with a CPAP machine? Do you shut your engine off when you use your CPAP? I was doing that but my DM has been all over me for excessive use of idling. So I tried not idling last night and my inverter went into error mode for not having the engine running. But they said that something was wrong with the battery or alternator. Both checked out good. Now they want the shop to rewire where it is wired to (ignition switch) to directly to the battery. I know that with an APU this problem isn't a problem. But Swift does ot have APU'S. It could just be my DM. He said I am idling at 62%. Which is the highest in his board. The mechanics at the shop aren't too happy about changing it over. They said it is supposed to be used with engine running to keep battery, alternator and inverter running at optimum. But fuel consumption is what he is getting at. So anyone have any thoughts?

CPAP:

Constant Positive Airway Pressure

CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Raptor, does your machine work on 12V? Are you idling to run a/c ? Do you feel comfortable telling your DM that this is just the way it has to be? Sometimes DM people will push you as far as you let them.

Dang! That policy blows Raptor. How do they expect you to remain compliant with your CPAP yet not give you the proper setup to run the machine. Hope the repairs fix it but I doubt that'll solve the problem. A battery is only for cranking the engine. The alternator or the APU are what gives it juice & prevent your batteries from being drained. Good luck.

You are not alone. My trainer and I just dropped at Walmart DC down the road in Colton. The primary air line has a split so we are going to take it to TA in Ontario to get it repaired. Hopefully it won't take too long. We were just there to get a trailer air leak fixed earlier today and it was done in less than an hour.

See if the shop foreman can email your DM and explain how it is supposed to work.

62 percent is high, but if there is a valid reason then it shouldn't be an issue. Last year my DM got on me a little about idle percentage but I reminded her where they had me running.

I know JV has been catching some heat for numbers lately so that may have something to do with the added scrutiny.

Well thanks for all of the replies.

I feel for ya. Be stuck at a terminal isn't as bad as being stuck on the road broke down.

Yes VP in Arizona is climbing on top of my DM. And as they say, rolls down line. The mechanics are getting ****ed off. They don't see what the big deal is seeing there aren't that many that are idling all the time but my DM has 4 of us on his board. Above 50%. The mechanics are saying that this way the battery, alternator and inverter stay in tune and donot havethe chance of dragging on each other. I have made 10 trips between my DM'Sdesk and the mechanic shop. This will be my exercise for the week.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
