Just because we are new to trucking, doesn't mean we are stupid. Remember we are grown with years of experience in many fields trying to apply it to this new experience and career.

Nobody said you're stupid. If you get this offended off some people telling you to not listen to the nay sayers you're going to have a difficult time with trucking. If words hurt your feelings how will you handle it if you hit some guys long nose Pete in the truck stop and he goes irate because you just cost him a week of revenue due to downtime. Honestly, if there was indeed a truck shortage they wouldn't be selling off old units, they would hold onto them longer or cut back on recruiting. How can a company grow if they just decide to have a ton of drivers sit and wait for a long time for a truck. Prime prioritizing truck placement will also help weed out those who will flee once the going gets tough. If you feel that we implied you're stupid wait until you get on the road and deal with customers. At some places you will be treated like the scum of the earth. How will you handle being told you can't use their restroom but they'll make you wait 8 hours to get loaded? You will see how negatively some people will treat you because in their eyes truck drivers are lazy people who had to settle because they have no skills. After a disagreement you pretty much "rage quit" and deleted your name? Doesn't seem very grown to me.

All of us donate our time here to help others succeed. We get nothing other than the enjoyment of HELPING others. If all we wanted to do was belittle others we'd be hanging at the truck stops laughing at the rookies over the CB while they try to back. As Rick pointed out in a different thread, some members get frustrated due to these rumors that never go away and we spend so much time trying to set the record straight just to be told we don't know what we're talking about.

Maybe if a reply like that came before all the Don't drink the koolaid speeches
Just because we are new to trucking, doesn't mean we are stupid.
If anything this post alone doesn't make me feel very welcome and shows it's no better than any other trucker forum.

A little dramatic, are ya?

It's clear that what I am saying and my honest effort to be helpful

It's clear that the replies you received were meant to be equally helpful. No one called you a Negative Nancy. Quite to the contrary, you were advised not to listen to the Negative Nancys.

A rumor starts- the next guy adds something- so does the next guy- and the next guy...

As mentioned before, these rumors come along every couple months, and always from a "office personal, and people I believe to be truthful." in the effort of "just passing on what I felt was good information to know."

The replies I read here we're good information to know, as well.

Rainy, are they still removing the seat in the lightweight trucks, or is that a request?

Yes, you can request the seat be removed if it hasnt been already. It seems most already have been, but there are some here and there.

Also for anyone who doesn't know, Prime is replicating the main terminal and putting it in Salt Lake City. It too will have indoor courts, spa, gym, theater and much more. A company in trouble wouldnt do that.

I also need to point out that 50 people passing a test in one week does not mean 50 will be upgrading at the same time, or 50 will be upgrading period. MOST trainees do not.make it through training. Only about 30 of those will last OTR before they quit or get fired. Of the 30, some will stay on the trainers truck or team with a friend just out of nervousness to go solo.

Many many trainees take home time and don't come back. Trucking is hard. It is not the travel agency people think it will be. It is a job and, god forbid, work is involved.

These are just more reasons why all of the negative rumors need to be ignored and a newbie needs to concentrate on learning.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Here is more info for you .. . Prime tested Volvos to add to our fleet and was expecting to order a large shipment. However there was a lot of downtime waiting for parts and some other concerns which Prime conveyed to Volvo. Since that time, the Volvo order has been on hold.

Once this issues are addressed i am sure we will get the trucks.

But see... it takes being at the company for more than a week to understand all of the various points involved.

As for the comment about trusting someone you just met.... It isnt in me. That is my Jersey Girl quality. I investigate without judging then get an answer from the right people.

Just a dumb question, but why would they take a seat out?

The bunks back against the seats and there are no cabinets. They take the passenger seat out for fridge microwave and drawers.

The LW pays 49cpm OTR plus weekly cpm for fuel bonus, on time delivery and safety. Another 5cpm for Northeast loads. So a newbie can easily make 50 to 57 cpm in a LW. Many newbies drive them a year then pay off their debts and upgrade to full size.

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

Because these compact trucks have smaller than usual sleeper sections. Removing the passenger seat, allows you to put more stuff in that space. Most folks put a fridge there.

Hi again. As an update, I finished my agility test today and within an hour got an appointment tomorrow at 3 to rent a car and drive to Pittston for my truck.
