Returning To J.B. Hunt... Or Not!?!

Got an email from "my J.B. Hunt recruiter" as I was leaving my new hometown (Kenosha, about to pass Amazon) in response to my update...

Today is the day I saw my Urologist / Surgeon and then my Internist. I got a no-restrictions Return to Work Document and a new insulin diabetes form signed. Next stop is for a new Federal Medical Certificate.

"Recruiter" said the Military and Entry Level Program (under which I was hired out of Technical College school) has been eliminated.

In a rare moment I actually got him on the phone directly. He said if I send him the new certificate he will contact the Amazon account manager (I think... got the name, not the title) to see if they can make an exception to take me back (most likely after more training at Target in Oconomowoc, if they still do that there)...

If not, it's fill out and blast apply from TT and, possibly, look for Co.-Sponsored RE-training. (Been almost 6 months since graduation)...

And recontact others I had moved on from, hit the street around new hood, etc..

Any point to doing 10-Street app after TT or are they pretty much the same? Had one there before...

Thanks. Positive thoughts appreciated!

That sucks. Did you move to Kenosha because you were under the assumption of Amazon? I'm not familiar with what 10 street is but the application here doesn't send it to quite a few that have their own school (swift, CR England, CFI to name a few).

Yes, mostly... Had to move on short notice... figured that made sense. Nice spot, reasonable but Amazon did play a big part in that decision process.

10 Street seems to be used by many companies. If you contact some directly (web site or other) many will send you there anyway so do it once a "blast" to many. Just don't want to "screw the pooch" in case duplicate submissions go to different recruiters and I then risk ****ing them both off!

Fortunately Kenosha is not that far South of Oak Creek which is home to many trucking companies which have a base of operations in the Milwaukee area. Even found a dump trailer hauler about a mile away in Kenosha.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

SOooo... always check out Target trailers, especially pulled by JBH tractors and ESPECIALLY by the Target DC. Coming back from the exam with my new Federal Medical Card I determine the driver is, in fact, my former trainer! I pull over, wait, pull out and wave... he waives back.

Once parked I call him. I explained what happened since my fall and departure and current status. He says he is still training Newbies and still for the Amazon account. He also got a new International with an automated manual transmission and loves it!

Hoping this is a sign from the "Trucker upstairs" who seems to be both challenging and looking out for me!

Marc, don't fret, you are highly marketable.

Recently saw a great comment about Old Dominion. You can also check out JBS Carriers. Solid companies.

Millis transfer has a school right up in richfield north of Milwaukee. You could probably drive there every day of you had to. Its also pretty handy for you as a home teeminal.

Marc I’m not sure if your interested in tankers or not, but we have a terminal just down the street in Bristol WI. Quality Carriers. Just a thought I know they are hiring out of there

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Great lead, PJ . Marc has a 'bit' of experience; should work, right? I sure miss pulling tanks with the hubby 5 years back. Asphalt (non haz, 6122 and 3257) .. tanks make banks, LoL~!

ps: You driving this week?

I deliver in the morning and I’m heading to the house. I’ll do my part and spare dot officers from 1 less truck to concern themselves with. I in no way want this to be a recruiting post. QC requires 1 yr min driving experience, at least 6 months straight with 1 company if there are multiples. Of course tank/haz mat and twic card. Passport highly desired but not mandatory. I have no idea what company benifts and pay are. Bristol is a very busy terminal.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
