What are my fellow truckers doing fro housing while OTR?

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Welcome Morris! A question first: are you new to trucking and want to know what living in your truck is like, or are you "homeless" now and want to compare notes? Many truckers do live on 3 axle "RVs". Are you one now?

First off, I do have a home, but it’s in another country… I go home for a visit for about two weeks, once a year. The other 50 weeks I drive/work, and live out of my truck. Is there anything specific you’d like to know? A fair amount has already been written on this subject, but I’d be happy to give you some additional insight.

What are my fellow truckers doing fro housing while OTR?

As long as an OTR trucker has a job they are cannot be homeless. I got rid of my house when I started driving and me and my dog live fulltime in the truck. I do know of drivers that were literally homeless when they went to CDL school with the intention of living in their truck also. I look at my company truck as an additional benifit from the company (free housing and utilities paid) and it's nice to get out of bed, step 3 steps into the office, start work then later take 3 steps back into my house.

I gave up the house I was renting when I went OTR. When I take hometime I either stay in my truck or in a hotel. I didnt see a point in paying for a place to spend 1 weekend a month. I went through company training with a homeless army vet that decided to become a driver for a place to live.

Go get a hotel room for a few days and recuperate there.
