Damn, it amazes me how much damage a blown steer can do. A month or so ago I lost one drive tire and two trailer tires at the same time all on passenger side, trailer was both on right rear. Never did see what got me, it was on a big city bypass in fairly heavy traffic. But of course there was no pucker factor like your steer tire blowing and no damage to my equipment.

Finally rolling again early this morning at 0100 from the KCMO terminal.

An outside shop did a three axle alignment on it yesterday at 1400.

Before the alignment. Note the "Toe In".

After the alignment. Correct!

Amazing what a mechanic can accomplish in 25 minutes when he follows instructions.

Once again, there were no broken, loose, or missing steering/suspension components before, during, or after the blown tire.

I lost three loads and well over $1500. This is another great example of why we recommend becoming a company driver.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

That sucks and yes a blown steer will scare the crap out of you with that initial tug. It’s odd that it destroyed those tires that quick without feeling something strange in the steering but it definitely happens.

I know! The only indication was about 20 - 30 miles before it exploded. I had stopped at a truck stop to shower and eat lunch. I was rolling again in just under an hour. After getting up to speed, the steering wheel had a slight shake, left-right repeat, and a major left pull. I could release the steering and go from the right lane to fully in the left lane in under three seconds. So I was thinking another trip to a terminal for another look.

Shortly afterwards.....kaboom!

Cars and trucks that are following too close, or hanging out in the "No Zone" suddenly drop away rapidly when pieces-parts are flying!

That’s a pretty drastic way to clear traffic lol.
