Four mechanical breakdowns in four weeks. My company is now going to put me in a 2021 International. I've only driven Frighterliners (currently a 2019 that i like, except for the breakdowns) Any comments about this 2021International with a Cummins engine?

It's a company truck that will handle a bit different, have different cabinets and may have some different features.

Here's some actual useful advice, Bruce. I've had five of them, including the trainer's truck.

The jake brakes are much better with the Cummins motor, compared to the Detroit in the FL. I prefer the FL for backing because it is the smoothest of any manufacturer (with an auto) for me. Fewer dealerships out here. I liked the mirrors on the International better, too.

I've found the Internationals to have more road noise than the FLs. I didn't like them when I first got one but I did grow fond of them. There are things on my Internationals that I miss on my new Freightliner, mostly different types of storage and drink holder/tray placement. Power and speed wise i can't tell much difference. I had one major breakdown in two years in an International and it was a fuel pump went out.

I drove a manual 10 speed International with Cummins a while back. Not my favorite truck by any means but it got the job done. I prefer the Freightliners. I think they’re more comfortable and a tad nicer overall. My favorite truck so far is this 12 speed auto Kenworth T680 with Cummins X15 I’ve got now

Almost forgot, in the Internationals, the curved edge of the hood that meets up by the windshield area will catch the sun around midday blinding you. I always meant to get some flat black tape or bedliner material to block that.

Just put a whole mess of burger wrappers, old coffee cups, permit book, the atlas, and seven stuffed animals across the dash. Blocks the sun really well!

Backing was weird for me in the international. No urge to move like my KW. so it would give me all or nothing. Jake's good, but at least on the 20 and before you have to apply service brake. Only had a 10 speed automatic, hated that. Smoother ride by far than the FL. Sloppy straight line steering unless loaded.

How's the new ride working out for YOU, Bruce?

Tom's company has an Int'l 'spare' daycab... Manual 10 speed, so . . . no comparison. He actually likes it.

And you?
