We actually drive on snow more than probably most, so anytime the road is covered enough that I've actually got to slow down, I'll engage the power divider. Every truck I've been in though, it will disengage at a certain speed. I'm assuming that's what you're talking about, we've also got a differential lock and that usually just gets engaged offroad-not sure otr trucks are specced with that option.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
In Alaska we disable that feature. Sometimes you need everything locked up above 25 mph.

I use it for snow or ice. We roll with the pdl in from October to April
I always used it when getting under a loaded trailer.

Ours auto disengage at 45 mph.
You guys have 2 axles????
There has been a number of times when I wish I had a 2nd drive axle and could lock it in.
Other then coupling/uncoupling on mud or snow, I drove with locked axles only once, and for an extremely simple yet stupid reason: I forgot to unlock it... good at least that it took me only five-ten minutes to notice, so I didn't break anything.
I put the second one in when needed getting under and out from a trailer. Ive been using it a ton on ice and snow lately. Ive been in the mountains and west for most of the last month or two

I’ve only had to lock in my second axle when I’m connecting to my trailer on a slick surface and then pull out again.
Are there any circumstances when you guys keep that axle engaged while on the road? Winter or wet conditions?
