Forward Radar Blocked?!?!

I keep getting a "forward radar blocked" error on my International LT. It now happens within half an hour every time and it always disables cruise control. The OnGuard radar unit in the front of the truck has been completely clean when the error occurs. So effectively I can't use cruise control pretty much the whole day and I can't stop every 20-30 minutes to restart my truck to make the error go away. I stopped at a Schneider OC and told them about the issue but they never fixed it either. How do I fix this issue because it's really starting to **** me off???

And note to people wanting to buy new trucks. DON'T get them with adaptive cruise control or collision prevention. They cause way to many headaches and don't really help either. Maybe the radar showing the speed of vehicle ahead of you helps some, but that's pretty much it.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

When mine has done that persistently, I brought it into one of our shops and had them fix it, and recalibrate it after. It's a safety issue as it's a piece of safety equipment on the truck. I used that justification for getting breakdown pay and layover pay while I was waiting for the truck. You could also ask for a loaner if they keep the truck for a few days.

The only time mine hasn't worked is during pouring rain or if snow builds up on it. I think it is a useful tool. I like being able to see how fast I'm closing in on the vehicle in front of me.

I don’t think that advice is realistic or helpful. Not many, maybe none, of those reading or posting here will be buying a new truck. However, if I were to buy one I would definitely get the ACC and collision protection. The system in my Frightliner works just fine and has probably saved my bacon on more than one occasion. I would not want to be without it, ever.

Your problem is that Schneider is not doing their job to fix your system. You need to be persistent in your determination to get your system working properly. I used to drive for Schneider and had mixed results with mechanical/computer problems. They consistently issued me crap trucks and I know it can be frustrating to get them to fix problems.

Also, can anyone even buy a new truck without ACC and collision protection? I have my doubts.

What will your insurance company say when they realize you do not have collision mitigation equipment? "Sorry, we can't give you those discounts on your premium."

Have a deer guard? My company has had to play around with different deer guards because some interfere with the radars on certain brands of trucks. One particular trucks deer guard got slightly bent, and it also began interfering with the radar.

You still can. My company just bought 100 trucks without any of that, not even a hole in the front bumper for the sensor. Feels weird driving them after years with the full safety suite.

andhe78, what was the reason your company didn’t specify those features on the new trucks? I’d be interested in knowing the factors that influenced that decision.

A couple of things. As some have mentioned, the deer guard could be affecting it. Also, one of the drivers at our company kept having issues; maintenance found a big tree leaf between the sensor and sensor cover Imagine that!
