Jim,

Most trucks hold around 150 gallons of fuel. Check your average fuel mileage so you know har far you can go on a tank and then leave a little cushion.

Hmmmm? I would swear I got a 165 gallons in there. Oh well, I know I can go at least 78 miles after the low fuel warning comes on. LOL

I need DEF now, I tried to top it off at my last fuel stop but apparently it wasn't authorized. My truck is a 2016 freightliner cascadia evolution, it basically has five lights on the gauge. It's been at level two since I got it, It clicked over to one this morning. LOL

Trucks usually hold between 150 and 300 gallons. It will say how many gallons a tank is stamped neck to the filler neck on the tank. Some of you may not be able to read it because of the skirt.

I have run out of fuel twice and both times it was in the middle of nowhere and both times it was with one tank full and the other empty. The cause of this was the vent tube on the driver's side tank was just plugged up with dust. Cleaned it off and let it drain over to equalize the other tank then prime the system and away I go again.

Oh I take that back there was another time. Was driving a new to me truck because mine was in the shop. Got in it and fired her up and 1/4 tank of fuel, cool only 98 miles to the truckstop in Bonner and I was going to Missoula empty. What I did not realize at the time was that the truck only had one fuel tank. I run out of fuel just before the last bridge about a mile from the Bonner exit. I could actually see the truckstop and fuel island... LOL

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

When I left the Petro yesterday morning my light was on. But I had an eight of a tank before I went to bed so I figured it wasn't that low. I only needed to go 84 miles to get to the fuel stop which at 7 mpg would have been about 12 gallons. Even with the light on there should have been more than enough. But nope.

The service tech was great. He even brought both of us cold bottle of water while he was working on the truck because we obviously had no air and it was 96 outside. He followed us up to the next service plaza to make sure we were ok. My fuel stop was still 30 miles away so he said I should probably get more fuel there at the plaza.

Except I had a big problem. They couldn't take my fuel card and I wasn't about to risk running out of fuel again! So I ended up paying for 20 gallons out of my pocket then taking my $50 cash advance to cover the difference.

The service tech told us as we were leaving that he would stay at the shop for a half hour or so and if we ran into any more problems to just call him and he'd be right there.

It could have been a lot worse. It could have been pouring and we couldn't roll the windows down. I could have lost my steering earlier and not been able to get off the road fully. It could have been the middle of the night. There's a ton of things that could have been worse but it all worked out in the end.

Pulling out of the fuel island at the TA in Aurora Oregon and I didn't pay attention to my mirrors.. went and bent my trailer wheel on the island curb and knocked over a trash can. What makes it worse is I was driving around the lot and didn't know I bent the wheel until everyone was staring at my trailer when I was going for a parking spot... pay attention.

Brain farts happen, Devan. Minor damage that won't show on your record, at least. Hint: go to a Swift terminal fuel lane. There should be an attendant there. Tell him you need to change the trailer wheel. They will do it right at the fuel lane. No paperwork, if you know what I mean. :-)

The worst thing that happened was that you were driving around a truck stop with a bent wheel in a SWIFT truck!

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Yup I got to pull swift moves in front of everyone hahaha. An older driver laughed and told me he did the same thing before. To make matters worse when I was standing outside of the truck as it was getting fixed, two ex swift drivers had to air their grievances on me. Telling me I'm wasting my time and such. I just nodded in laugh because what they said wasn't true.

No, Paul haha they said I shouldnt waste my time with Swift. That they have no right to make me stay for a year, even though I signed a contract haha... Sure I could have joined in with crying because this month has been bad for me, but instead I am just rolling with the punches and trying to figure things out.
