So I'm curious how many of you get home for the holidays? I mean I work in a profession that goes 24-7-365 and I'm working both Christmas Eve and Day, my mother who works for a bank gets the day off if Christmas Day falls on a week day. Now maybe rookie drivers don't get the holidays off, but if maybe you're a bit seasoned is that possible? Or do you just have to put in for it and hope you get it off?

Old Dominion is giving us Friday and Monday off. 4 day weekend for Christmas. Both Friday and Monday are paid.

I'm telling you my friends. Best company ever.

I'll be off for Christmas and through 11 January 2022, but only because I'm leaving the current company. I usually stay out over the holidays by choice. Between 33 years combined of the US military and trucking, I've been home seven times for Christmas.

I got home this morning - Dec. 23rd. I'm going to be home until January 3rd. I'm on a dedicated account. The plant shuts down the last week of each year for maintenance. One of the many great things I enjoy about this particular job.

The drivers who want or need to work will be assigned some third party brokered loads. I always enjoy taking the time off.

Being a widow, I prefer to NOT be home because it's just me and my dog for certain holidays...Thanksgiving, Christmas and Mother's Day (the day my younger sister died). I was out this Thanksgiving and had planned to stop in KY to get a Thanksgiving dinner at a Flying J. The Denny's closed at 3 p.m., so I heated up a dinner for my meal. Christmas will be here in Illinois with three of my brothers. I asked my dispatcher what he had planned after I unloaded cheese in Greensboro NC. He asked where I wanted to be and I gave him where my brothers were and a friend is. He got me a load to Joliet IL and I'm off until Monday when I pick up in East Peoria and go to SLC. New Year's I would like to spend with a friend but it looks like I'll be on the road...Probably stuck in Wyoming waiting out the wind and snow. 😝

I've been with this company over 3 years. I run hard for them and it's nothing to ask for a favor and they do try to accomplish it to the best of their ability.

CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS to all!

Laura

Everything depends on a company, and companies are different. I drive for a small one, and whenever I need a day, a week, or even a few weeks off, I tell my boss and that's all.

FAB Express, for Tom & Don as well; got an extra bonus to cover. ODFL doesn't hire in our area; we tried. Estes has too much 'backlog' with family of family or something, union. Never WOULD hire Tom.

Stay blessed with your health & happiness, all!

I hope we can chat, in the interim!!!! I do. No matter, Happy/Merry!!! I'm 'HEALING!' I wish you the best. Thanks for being my friend.

Andrey, if Tom 'had' the opportunity to run part of these 4 days; bet he would. He's already TIRED of the 'honeydew' list, haha!

PEACE & MERRY CHRISTmas . . . to one & all.

Stay blessed.

ps: I get 'lonely' this time of year, too.... Laura. I totally get you there.

I was going to work Christmas because we're going to Cancun for new years. The Mrs has stacked up a bunch of vacations. I'd prefer to just keep working but she apparently has other plans, in the end I usually just agree, kinda like the software agreement.

I'm on recaps though and have really weak hours the next 3 days due to weather shutdowns and route issues last weekend so I may end up taking it off anyway for a reset.

All I have to do is ask for it. I had planned on working so I didn't request time off. My DM called me a few days ago and says he didn't see a request, I tell him I planned on working it but if my load happened to be going through the state and had extra time I would take a couple days but no need to do anything special, just plan me like you would normally. Later today I'll be in LR Arkansas and shutting down for a couple days and visiting family. I'm guessing he got me planned this way as my current load from SC to Ft Worth t-calls into the yard. I thanked him and will enjoy Christmas with the family.

Just happened to be my 3rd week out, so was set to be home Thursday, for 3 days, but got near home, Tuesday afternoon, to take my 10 hr SB....Is an empty lot near house 2 miles away from I-15, parked n slept there... again.

Plan was to deliver my load, so 2 am woke up at the dirt lot a mile from home, drove down, delivered, took my empty to pick up loaded target trailer. Dropped my loaded trailer at our drop lot, then BT home. Got here eh 5 am. So got 4 days off, I plan to grab my load Sunday sometime, if not late-late Saturday night, and start my next 3 weeks back n forth from Texas/Oklahoma/Cali.

Worked out good since buddy n his wife going to Vegas, daughters house for xmas, so I can be the dog sitter lol the dogs missed me !! The 4 of em think I'm their owner, and stick to me like glue.....Yeah I make sure they got water and I give em treats....Got home and wahlah ! the outside water bowls were near empty, the Lab n the Pitty, girls, lap that stuff up !!
