Hey guys, So I have a situation going on where Pam Transport terminated me for violating their company policy of accident reporting. I backed up and hit a Truck at a truck stop and left the scene without letting the other trucker know, I really panicked because im a new driver and did not really know the consequences of not reporting a incident at the time and later they called and asked me was my truck involved in a accident a a truck stop because the truck caught my truck on camera. Also, I had a incident days after that where my bumper of my truck scraped against a yard jockey at a consignee place and messed up my bumper which i reported this one. So i got terminated and now it has been hard for other companies to hire me because they said i need 6 months to a year of safe driving. Do you guys know any companies who will let me redeem myself? I only been driving 5 months and im like how can i redeem myself if other companies not even given me a chance. I learned from my mistakes and ready to get back to trucking.

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

That's going to make it difficult for another company to trust you. Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is looking. Trust is very important in this business.

I'm sure they went over this extensively in orientation. Every company stresses the importance of reporting every accident.

That's another preventable to add to an integrity problem.

Dutch Maid or Trans Am may be willing to hire you. Your record and this economy will make it an uphill battle. Good luck.

Is your license still valid? If so, consider yourself extremely lucky. Knowingly leaving the scene as a CDL holder, regardless if a CMV or personal vehicle, can result in loosing your license for a minimum of a year for your first offense. Second offense is lifetime disqualification.

The best you can do is apply everywhere and hope for the best. The economy and your safety record is going to make it very difficult to land another opportunity but keep submitting applications and see what happens.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CMV:

Commercial Motor Vehicle

A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:

  • Weighs 10,001 pounds or more
  • Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more
  • Is designed or used to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver) not for compensation
  • Is designed or used to transport 9 or more passengers (including the driver) for compensation
  • Is transporting hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placards

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Let's call this what it is: Hit and Run, as in leaving the scene of an accident.

ALL COMPANIES HAVE THE SAME POLICY FOR THIS. You stay at the scene until released by law enforcement and/or the company's safety department.

You can put in applications as in nothing ventured, nothing gained. But I’d be surprised if even a second chance type company will hire you at this current time.

You might want to get another type of driving job like dump truck. Any class B type of job. It will allow you to keep your head in the game during which sufficient time will have to go by.

If this is not a viable alternative, one of the more experienced drivers here will correct me on this.

Oof! You're trolling us. Right?

You hit another vehicle and left the scene? I don't mean to sound harsh. But I don't want to give false hope either. That's a major offense. At a minimum, it's a misdemeanor offense for property damage. I'm surprised you haven't been informed of an impending fine and possible jail time - and that's just for property damage. At this point, any insurance company will most likely consider you uninsurable. But, I could be wrong.

Dutch Maid is not currently an option for a driver in this type of situation. They have tightened hiring requirements. They are looking for drivers with 6 months of experience.

They still have their CDL school, but they have substantially slowed down on hiring without experience.

Just mentioning this because it's the most current information.

You might catch a break with a moving company or something. But hit and runs are a big no no
