Well, my friends, the time has finally come. I can’t put off knee replacement surgery any longer. Tomorrow I deliver a load of dead cow to the Milwaukee area and then I will get a back haul to the terminal in Terrell, TX. I have to turn in my truck and will fly back to Wisconsin for all the pre-op appointments. The actual surgery is 9/26.

The estimated recovery time is 6 weeks, but my goal is to be back driving after 4 weeks. We’ll see, but I’m going to try to get back as soon as possible.

I’m staying with my grandson during the recovery period. I’m looking forward to being with him but he is not very enthusiastic about having me there. I’m sure he thinks I will interfere with his college social life. Plus he thinks all old people stink. Lol

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Best of luck BK!

I've spoken with many, many people who have had knee replacements and I've never heard even a single bad outcome. Everyone was thrilled with the results! I'm sure you will be, too.

Wow, you have to stay with your grandson, who is in college? Yeah, college kids aren't happy about hanging out with us old people, but I'm sure you guys will make the best of it!

Thanks, Brett.

Yeah, I do understand my grandson’s feelings and perspective, but I think the arrangement will benefit him in ways he doesn’t understand completely at 19 years of age. I’m really looking forward to the time I will be living with him. Plus, I pay his tuition, rent and living expenses, so fair is fair. He has a part time job, but that will end when the school year begins.

To keep my head in the game, I will keep up with TT and continue to irritate everyone on the forum. Hehe

Don't let that college crowd influence your judgement while you are recuperating.

We don't want you posting questions under an alias a month from now asking about how long it takes for Marijuana to become untraceable in a urine sample.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you're able to meet your goal for getting back in the driver's seat sooner than expected.

I hope all goes well Bruce!

I have to agree with Brett. The friends I know who've had knee replacements loved the end results. The recovery and physical therapy are the hard parts, but that's what you have to go through to get the good results.

Hang in there and stay in touch with us.

Best of luck BK. I've also known many who have gotten replacements from teaching skiing and motorcycle racing. They were happy with the results

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the kind words.

RealDiehl, you crack me up! I guess I will have to watch out for second hand smoke now. Thanks for the smoke alarm, lol.

My grandson is a very sensible young man. He avoids any bad substances like the plague. Both his parents ruined their lives with drugs and alcohol.

My situation is much less serious than what Old School overcame with his vision. Of course, if I croak on the operating table, I may have to amend that statement.

Good luck Bruce.

I agree with others…I have several friends and family who recovered relatively quick and experienced a much improved lifestyle as a result.

You’ll be back ravaging our highways in no time!

Congratulations, in advance, on your new knee!

I know, sounds crazy, right? I nursed my Wife through both knee replacements. She went from barely hobbling to the beach, to leading the pack. You will too! I found the following, a successful combination.

1. Stay ahead of the pain. I kept a written record of when she took her pain meds (on time, keeps the pain at bay). I cannot stress this enough. And,

2. DO THE PHYSICAL THERAPY! Doing the at-home stuff is critical to your recovery. Don't let it slide.

Sorry you and your Grandson are having to give up your comfort zones, but I suspect you're going to be very happy in about 4-6 months.

Good luck and keep the Faith!
