It sounds legit. Especially in those conditions! It certainly doesn't come off as a petty complaint made out of frustration. It's a bona fide safety issue. I hope they take your report seriously.
I have made phone calls for various reasons. It seems like drivers are unaware when all their trailer lights are off at night and I can't raise them on the CB to let them know. I have had several that were weaving in their lane and have made a phone call.
All the companies that I have called were very appreciative and have reached their drivers. They usually pull off on the first exit. I know I wouldn't want to have a phone call made about me driving stupid, but I realize if I was, I deserved it. I just hope that the drivers realize that I was just trying to help.

Funny, @ crst, we were in Missouri at love's buying smokes (cheapest) and fueling. Now I would sometimes, in the dirt of our trailers rear doors scribble "FJB" or with the actual words spelt out. Never got complaint til this time in Miss. 1 of our company "KAREN" female drivers, was also at this Love's She was decked out in Joe Biden garb, ball cap & t-shirt, some hat pins etc, kinda over done it. So we get back on the road, she happened to pass us, ok, her truck had a little more speed than our 70 mph truck.
A little while later, I was still up, our DM calls my cell. Asks if our trailer doors had profanity on them? Playing dumb, I said naww not that I'd seen. So my co drivers behind the wheel, and blurts out, he will check next stop, "boss", and wash it off (all kissy kissy like) I laughed.I told him to leave it alone, it's not hurting anyone else's feelings but Karens. We got thumbs up from passing cars or trucks.
Well, he did stop, and wiped off the "F" part, I had to rib him on being such a sissy and folding, we got a good laugh
Stevo, that's pretty damn funny!
Bobcat, I feel you did the right thing. Being a professional and being part of this brotherhood means holding each other to a high standard. You don't let a fool drag us all down. When someone doesn't live up to our high expectations, someone needs to step up and hold that person accountable. You did that, and I appreciate you for it.
Our world desperately needs people who are willing to hold themselves and others to a high standard. Our societal standards have dropped to what feels like a desperately low level. I'm hoping we begin to experience a rebound effect from recent years and spring back toward God, Country, Family, and the more conservative values of past generations. We don't have to go back to Leave it to Beaver days, but if I had to choose, I'd certainly take that over where we are now.
Now, how the hell do we get truckers to stop tailgating? That is one of the most egregious offenses in my book. We need a national, "Get Off My Ass" campaign!
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I've been doing this for the previous three years. One year to go.
Yes Brett, I always hated that too, tail gaters. Even in my 4 wheelers, I'd thought to have stickers made saying "Get off my azz, or buy my gas"/"You don't buy my gas, get OFF my AZZ" I used to do the count between mile markers or post of signs etc, to make sure I wasn't following too close for that exact reason. It only takes a nano second, for someone in front of you to make a stupid move, or abrupt stop. Never in my life had an accident in my cars, sure wasn't gunna have 1 in an 80,000 lb missile.

This right here.

One thing would be to prohibit bumper stickers on the back of Prius cars. We all know how tempting it is to tailgate a Prius doing 10 mph below the speed limit in the passing lane so we can read the bumper stickers. That one thing might eliminate about half the tailgating.
On a serious note, I think it is just fine to call in a driver who does something really bad and/or dangerous. I’ve made several of such calls myself when I could get the truck or trailer number.
I recently was at a Pilot to fuel up. Very busy Pilot and trucks were lined up 2 and three deep waiting their turn. The truck in front of me fueled, pulled up and the driver went inside the store. I fueled up and was waiting for the driver to return and leave. 5 minutes, 10 minutes and still no driver. Couldn’t back out because there were two trucks behind me. Finally went in a told the clerk at the fuel fest that there was a PAM truck in lane #21 blocking the lane. She made an announcement over the PA system, but it still took the driver 35 minutes total to move his truck. Sad thing was that there were plenty of empty parking spaces straight ahead of that truck. So I got the truck number and called it in. The person I talked to at the company said they didn’t approve of their drivers taking 30 min breaks in the fuel lane and that they would talk to this driver about that. Who knows if it did any good. I hope so.

Every once in a while in LA, I take great pleasure when the chance permits to have someone in a Prius next to me and Edna (my truck) starts doing a nice loud smelly regen. Early summer is the best, when they have their window down. Okey dokey, here's the results of your environazism.

I have been driving a truck for 6.5 year and have never contacted a company about how unsafe one of their drivers was. Unfortunately, I feel I have to speak out about what one of your drivers did on I-65 in Indiana today while is was snowing. Around 9:40 AM Central time your driver was in the middle of 2 other trucks exiting the rest area. I had already moved to the second lane to allow all 3 trucks to have adequate room to merge. Your driver then pulled into the first lane I had just vacated and proceeded to try and pass the truck that had been exiting in front of him. Once he realized that the truck he was trying to pass now couldn't merge and was nearing the end of the ramp he made a immediate left lane change with no signal into the 2nd lane while doing approximately 30 mph. This caused the car in front of me, myself and several other cars and at least one other truck to have to slam on their brakes. One or two cars took to the shoulder to avoid a collision.
I was unable to see a unit number as I didn't get close enough, I am not sure if you locate this driver without or even car enough to try, but I felt something needed to be said. It was an extremely dangerous and nearly disastrous move.
